The Kansas City Educational Opportunity Center assists clients interested in returning to school in order to obtain a certificate or degree. Free services include: college selection and admission application, financial aid application, scholarship search guidance, career counseling, GED/continuing education referral and placement, financial/economic counseling and defaulted student loan counseling.

An EOC counselor can provide information on academic requirements and assist in developing an educational and career plan, as well as developing or editing your academic resume, to be included with college and scholarship applications.

Description
The EOC provides an understanding of the different types of financial aid, college-cost comparison, understanding financial aid award letters from colleges and student loan borrowing basics. Participants may also utilize the FDIC Money Smart program which provides information on bank services, borrowing basics, opening a checking account, budgeting, saving and credit scores.

Description
EOC counselors provide information about options regarding defaulted student loans and assist in getting out of default. In addition to wage garnishment, eligibility to receive federal financial aid, including social security benefits and tax refunds, is forfeited until either the loan is cancelled, consolidated, or a reasonable payment plan is established.

Description
The Missouri Employment and Training Program (METP) helps food stamp recipients develop a work plan that includes job search training, educational opportunities to develop business and workplace skills, financial management information, and referrals to other services to help them accomplish their goals and increase their earnings. METP may also be able to provide financial support for training in the fields of transportation, warehousing, healthcare information technology and manufacturing. METP is not a placement agency. Limited transportation assistance to aid your job search may be available. Participation is voluntary and will have no bearing on your food stamp allotment.
