The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/KCK Health Department is dedicated to preventing and controlling the spread of disease in our community. Some of our activities include investigating diseases and outbreaks, testing for and treating diseases like tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections, preparing for heath in disasters, providing immunizations, and partnering with healthcare providers to respond to a wide variety of infectious diseases

Description
This health department is a safe haven for persons wishing to legally surrender physical custody of their infant. A parent or other person having lawful custody of an infant may leave the infant (without fear of prosecution) in the hands of staff. A parent will not be prosecuted for leaving their newborn at a safe haven if they follow the laws when the child is under 60 days old and shows no signs of abuse or neglect.

Any person having lawful custody of a child less than 45 days old in Missouri and less than 60 days old in Kansas.

Visit health department and leave child with an employee (must leave with a person, not outside). Child should be taken to hospital ER after hours.

TB testing and evaluation are provided at no cost to people with recent exposure (close contact) to a person with active TB disease. TB testing for any other reason (including school, work, or immigration) is offered through the health departmentâs laboratory for a fee.
